I can't believe it took me so long to read this book. For some reason, I had it in my noggin that I was going to be bored, but the book was anything but boring. There was constant action, conflict, unpredictability, etc. and I was never, ever bored.Melissa Moore has a lot going on - she's the producer of a news program - dealing with crazy anchors and constant breaking news; she has a mother in a retirement home who is suffering from dementia and only remembers her 50 percent of the time; her only daughter just left for college; and her husband is so involved in his work, he barely listens to her or notices her anymore. Despite the above, Melissa holds it all together very well and I really liked her character and empathized with everything she was dealing with - from trying to get her 80 year old mother's approval to taking on an unexpected new role at her station, to shrugging away paranoia that her husband might be up to something not-so-good, to enjoying attention from random men after feeling somewhat invisible for a long time. Melissa was incredibly relatable and real. Although there was a lot going on in this novel, it never got confusing or too unbelievable. There were a lot of twists and turns and I never quite knew how things were going to turn out - I liked the unpredictability, especially where Melissa's husband Chris was concerned. I was very anxious to find out how that story would unfold and I was not disappointed. I think the only thing I might have wanted to see was a bit of interaction between Melissa and her daughter Katie. Katie was mentioned but was never actually seen or spoken to.
Great read. I look forward to more from Lauren Clark.

Stay Tuned Lauren Clark 9780984725007 Books Reviews
Stay Tuned was an excellent book! I look forward to more books by Lauren Clark. The story line was multi-faceted and this added interest. I was intrigued by Melissa's relationship with her husband, Chris, and I enjoyed their story. It was very refreshing and realistic. So many stories deal with the budding relationships of strangers. It was wonderful to watch two characters with baggage instead. I could relate to Melissa's challenges in caring for her mother since I am also caring for my mother. Her tenderness and sadness concerning her mother's condition were so admirable. Melissa's feelings concerning motherhood mirrored my own. The best part of the book was how Melissa transformed her life. It wasn't easy, but she never gave up! Melissa is a hero, balancing her life between family, friends, and work. I received a complimentary copy of this book in order to review it.
What I enjoyed about this book was the fact that the main character was closer to my age than a lot of protagonists tend to be. I could definitely relate to her life situations, and it was nice to read about a married woman as well.
Although the book started off well, I soon lost interest. The plot moved way too slowly, and the storyline wobbled quite a bit. For some reason, I thought started out as a mystery, but it wasn't a mystery. Then it seemed like a romance. Nope, wrong again. It was more of a slice of life story. The problem was that the life wasn't very interesting.
I think this book would do really well with certain readers who enjoy slice of life stories with happily-ever-after endings. However, for me, without more of a mystery or a romance, I found it kind of meh.
Lauren Clark is a solid writer, but I probably won't be reading any more of her books.
Melissa Moore is a behind-the-scenes producer for the news at WSGA in Macon, Georgia, and she enjoys her job. Things get ugly, and they get ugly fast when one of the snarky co-anchors for the news, Alyssa, throws a punch on the ten o'clock news. Melissa directs to commercial while she pulls Alyssa off of her co-anchor. With only a few minutes left, Melissa can either let the commercials run out the clock, or...she can take over.
She nabs an earpiece, settles behind the desk, runs through the prompts, and completes the ten o'clock news, much to her manager's relief. Calls come flooding in. Melissa is a hit! She's helped save WSGA's reputation and has landed herself a new job--though only temporarily.
Pulling into her garage, Melissa considers how she's going to break the news to her husband, Chris. Yet, as usual, the only thing she finds from him is a sticky note stating that he's working late. Again. Chris seems to be working late an awful lot recently, and Melissa has her suspicions. Everything falls out of place as Melissa tries to do her very best as the new co-anchor for WSGA and save her marriage. Nothing goes right, and she finds herself on the top of the station being wined and dined by her co-anchor, learns her husband's competition for a raise is a sexy, slinky woman, and Alyssa is trying to kill her. Yup. What a handful.
"Stay Tuned" is fast-paced, fun, and a downright treat. Trust me, you'll love Melissa's hectic life and want her best friend (and Dr. Phil devotee), Candace, to give you all the right tips for staying on top.
"Stay Tuned" and enjoy the ride!
If you want a really good story to read, I highly recommend reading Stay Tuned. It sucked me in from the very beginning. It literally took me less than 24 hours to read it. That is how into this story I got.
You instantly relate to Melissa, a woman struggling to have a career and keep her marriage from going to crap all at the same time. Something that is never easy to do. She fears, with good reason that her husband may be having an affair. How is she supposed to handle that right in the middle of a career change?
On top of that she is trying to see after her mom who is in a nursing home suffering from dementia. Every visit Melissa hopes to get just a little glimmer of her mom and not the stranger that she has become due to her illness.
I got a good laugh out of the Post-it note messages shared between Melissa and her husband Chris. That made me think of the scene on Sex and the City where Burger breaks up with Carrie via a Post-it note left on her computer.
This book will make you laugh. And a couple of times make you cry. But it is well worth reading. I highly recommend it!
